Most of what has been presented here (Panamax) will do surge protection, but zip in regard to cleaning up power. I used to have Panamax, but the Shunyata gear puts them to shame. I plugged my amps into one Panamax that has a current meter, and the Panamax started humming. LOL.

No Danny. Panamax is a surge protector.

PS Audio or Bud's beloved Shunyata are head and shoulders above when it comes to power delivery products.

The Shunyata/PS Audio versus Panamax are two different animals. I had Panamax in both my stereo and HT, and replaced each one with a Shunyata. I don't worry about power surges, but AC line noise, along with component to component noise, are big issues that the Shunyata handles very well, but not the Panamax.

well this is what i call a affordable panamax unit states..

Improves Picture and Sound Quality: Level 2 Power Cleaning and Linear Filtration eliminates common symptoms of contaminated power (including loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums and visual artifacts) and allows your A/V equipment to perform up to its full capability

so there saying its a power conditioner.

Danny, I think what the guys mean is there are different levels of Power conditioning, different levels of performance. Much like all AVR's and amps or other gear are not created equal.

Some don't quite live up to their marketing hype, while others surpass it. I've personally no experience with Panamax, but I can tell you Monster stuff sucks wind if that helps. ;)

I have experience with some higher end Panamax stuff. It works as advertised, obviously not the last word in conditioning, but it does work. I use one in my theater (m5400pm), I've also noticed an improvement in picture performance. Comparing shunyata to Panamax is like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda. Ps audio has really great entry level stuff. And is a great recommendation over Panamax. Which is what I would do, the dectet is the one to grab on sale.

I use the older model of the Dectet, the quintet or somethin' like that. I liked it better than the dectet because it had more outlets and a spot to run your cable tv feed thru. Been working without a hiccup for years....and quiet as a church mouse it keeps my system. Outperforms an old Monster 5100 which was like 6-700 hundies new back when. Then again, it isn't too hard for any product to outperform Monster anything.

lol, yeah monster is usually just so so and overpriced..

the way my stereo sounds i currently have 0 complaints, im happy to the point where i say its time to leave it as is

something that cleaned up the power a bit with good surge protection would probably be fine for me.
