I love Tequila. Every time I go to Mexico I try to bring a two bottles of top shelf Tequila back with me. Herradura is one of my all-time favorites. Patron is great too. I can honestly say though that I've never really had any bad tequila.

I wasn't really aware of how expensive some top shelf tequilas were until I started visiting Mexico. Ones I never even heard of let alone seen for sale in America. Down there you see bottles that are hundreds of dollars. Herradura that costs like $35 per bottle in the U.S. are like $17 in Mexico. It's one of the more common brands that everyone likes.

Here's a bottle of top-shelf tequila I was planning to crack open for Cinco de Mayo but was at another event and didn't have the chance. I got this bottle of Baluarte in Mexico City for like $50. It's more up here in the states. I've never had it before but one of my amigos in Mexico told me it was muy primo!

There is something about tequila, any tequila, that just wipes me out. I thought the Patron might be different.

Only, three reasonable drinks and one shot on Saturday night and I wanted to get on the roof of the house. My head felt as large as the room.

I am allergic to mushrooms and I wonder if there is something that affects me from both.

    Thanks for the comments, all!!

It is too hard reach to the top shelf Tequila when you're hammered. I go for the middle shelf Tequila since the bottom shelf Tequila will make you tip over.

I went to Mexico City a few times on my old job and one of the men I worked with there, gave me this bottle of Tequila Corralejo before I left. Good stuff.

Is Patron even made in mexico? There is something on the bottle with a southwestern state Arizona maybe, or is that just the importer? I really like the blue bottle Cabo Wabo. I quit drinking Jose cuervo when mexico lighten the rules as to what Tequila was. Used to be it had to be 51% blue agave to be tequila. But when the big craze came in they switched to it could be 51% beet sugar alcohol and 49% blue agave. Not that Jose was really any good to begin with. I do not like the tequilas that are rested for years in old charred oak whiskey barrels, it to me gives it too much of a whiskey taste and I can't stand bourbons and whiskeys the smell just makes me hurl.

A lot of "mixto" came out in the early 2000's when tequila hit a growth spurt causing a shortage of agave. It takes an agave plant 8 to 9 years to fully mature so some planning and investment follows trends.

Now the is an abundance of agave and a lot of tequilas are 100% blue agave, some don't even market as such. Regular Sauza gold and silver is an example.
