Thank you ALL for the lovely words, it means more to me than you know. I'm at peace with this because in recent years their quality of life was getting so bad. It's like that old dog you love so much, but you know he's in pain--so you do what's right for him, rather than what makes you feel good. I have thanked the Lord for the humane way in which he allowed them to pass. Dad passed in his sleep; Mom had developed another type of cancer in her other lung that was inoperable--but thankfully when things went bad, it was just literally hours before she passed. I wasn't able to get there in time to see Mom, but I did have the opportunity to tell her how much I loved her on the phone while she was still coherent.

Sincere Thanks. Call your Mom & Dad tommorrow.

So, so sorry to hear of this, but I have to say that the tone of your post is delightfully positive despite the clear pangs of you losses. Lives well and fully lived, by the looks of it. ... and sixty-one years together! Inspiring.

Thanks fellas. Yeah, we drug them everywhere with us. Walkers, oxygen machines, 40lbs of meds---I think we may have killed them! We wanted to soak in every last minute with them. I'm glad we did. The "last" trip was in November to Table Rock Lake in Branson, Mo. They didn't get to do much, but Mom did get some fishing in, and Dad always enjoyed just sitting on the deck looking at the lake. My sisters (both nurses) have been amazing. Their lives for the last 10yrs have been insane, so I'm glad they're actually getting a well deserved break. I have the best brother/sister-in-laws on the planet. Their dedication and investment in the care of Mom & Dad were just phenominal. God love them. Shout out to Greg, Bev, Angie, Scott, Tiffany--you are incredible human beings.

Call your Mom & Dad tomorrow.

    Steve,

My sincere condolences for your loss. Your quoted advice is perfect.

I lost my Mom and Dad 49 days apart 15 years ago. They were inseparable for 56 years. Not a day passes that I don't think of them in some way and wish I could make that call.

Sorry for your loss man, but you at least got in some good time with them before they left you. Lost my dad last Labor Day and kinda the same thing, knew it was coming but didn't expect it when it happened. Just like you, my parents instilled into me the "right things" and have always been & always be 2 of the most admirable people I'll ever know.

Thank you Bob. I'm fortunate that my parents had the courage to be parents, and not popularity contest winners. That, in my opinion, is a true sign of love. They had standards that they expected us to meet or exceed, and most importantly, they would allow us to fail once in awhile so we could learn from it.

So sorry for your losses, Steve. That's so tough to have it happen like that, so close together, though, when they've been together that long probably better from their perspective. I lost my mom as well about 18 months ago. Very sudden. Her legacy will live on just as your's will in you. Honesty and integrity are a great legacy to leave.

Condolences Steve. By the way you speak of them, I can tell your family was a strong one. Be proud and carry that tradition forward.

In the pics, I see your dad in both a Cardinals and a Mizzou hat. I think he and I would have gotten along well :)

My condolences Steve, but it sounds like your were blessed and fortunate to have such a strong family. Many are not so lucky.

And it seems like you missed a virtue your parents modeled for you: commitment and fidelity, also virtues missing among many today.

I know you are grieving, but you also seem to have many reasons to be proud and grateful!
