A gentleman up here in Canada makes some very nice roller blocks for a decent price. I'm thinking of buying 2 sets of 3 to try under my DAC and pre. I'm using BDR cones right now under my preamp only.

What do people here use? Research shows the roller block method seems to be the most effective, and looks very interesting. Looking
For cost effective devices Under 100 bucks per item. My rack is filled with sand, dynamat on cross bars and under shelves. With thick bamboo boards Under each component.

I'm a big believer in the sorbathane pucks. Audioquest use to have the big blue half hemispheres i bought several sets on clearance they're the bomb. Never been a fan boy hard metal ball and puck type seems to me your gear would slide around on them too easily.

Mikey - those are beautifully machined little works of art.

Curious here, guys - what are we after? Seems like this is a couple vs decouple option? Vibration isolation vs. ?

I use mostly Stillpoints Ultra 6's + Ultra bases for my heavier components & Stillpoints Ultra mini's under my Oppo dvd player. Stillpoints feet use what they call "technology pockets" comprising a carefully shaped stainless steel body, "Caylx" filled with ceramic balls & a spiked screw which sits in the middle of the ceramic balls. You can read more about it here. The Ultra 6's as you can see in the pic below use 6 technology pockets...hence 'Ultra 6'.

I'm also not far off ordering a set of these Magico S Pods to spike my S5 Mk2 speakers (see pic below). They're basically a hybrid constrained layer cone/spike design, with the constrained layer being copper.

I do get why some people prefer wooden 'tuning feet'. I own a set of feet similar to Harmonix tuning feet which I use under my Schumann resonator, though I prefer not to use 'tuning' devices under my main components as I prefer my supports and cables to be essentially neutral. That said, Harmonix tuning feet are cool. So are Shun Mook diamond resonators.

My understanding is these are isolation type devices, but will also drain vibrations. This is done by converting the energy into a rocking motion.

Pretty sure I'd be distracted by the doppler effect that creates.

That looks more like a "hot box" device to me.

Now that taxes and vacations are over, I will be ordering some Magico SPODs for the speakers. Unfortunately, Magico hasn't updated their website to show them to the world. But they will sell them. :)

Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.
  • @Bud, those things look like mean brass knuckles...not to be messed with!

I placed an order for 2 sets of roller blocks. I've been moving my black diamond racing cones between preamp and dac (only have one set of 3), I can't believe the difference they make. When moved to different locations under equipment, I'm getting different results as well.

Plan is to put roller blocks under preamp, and dac. The BDR cones will go under my balanced power conditioner, which is placed on a butcher block, with vibrapod cones under the butcher block on the floor. I will most likely screw the BDR cones permanently to the conditioner.

Will see how these work before putting them under other pieces of gear.

Thanks to those who shared their isolation devices.

a pair of wooden bar stools may not look as nice as real speakers but they are generally pretty sturdy on carpet and get your tweeters pretty close to ear level

Bar stools huh....don't have a thread about bars, stools, or cocktails.....but we use to. Think we lost it in the transition. Started by an old member Russman, it was a sort of "what are you drinking" thread for Friday nights. Maybe it's still around, haven't looked.

i was reading a thread about wobbly bookshelf stands on carpet, i went off to do something else and came back here i though i still had that thread open but i was wrong lol.

i once had some bookshelf up on a set of wooden stools which worked great. it did not look great but to me thats not a big deal, they were nice and stable and i was not worried they would tip over.

Barstools don't work well, as I have fallen off many of them. They are very unstable platforms.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

I have concrete slab, so I don't really use any isolation aside from the spikes on my speaker stands.
