I avoid the big power receivers for this reason. Too much $$$$.
Mid power integrated amps are still not cheap, but certainly not
    in the 4 figure range.

And that's not even the best reason to avoid them!

I'd make some sort of a crack about a high power receiver (as opposed to a power amplifier or even an integrated amplifier) fundamentally being a silly concept, something like a four-door Porsche or a Lamborghini SUV... but those similies just wouldn't have the intended irony ;)

Think I'll list my Marantz 2220b for $2999 original price and list it for $2000. Claim it's a bargain and was considered one of the best sounding receivers ever. Smokin deal.

Humm I wonder what I could flip a nice Yammy CA800 for in this market?

Pioneer SX-1980 is one of the high powered receivers that belongs to the herd that claims biggest, boldest receiver of the time. It's pioneer attempts to best the Sansui G-33000, Technics SA-1000, Marantz 2500/2600, Yammy CR-3020; etc. and the last of high end / high priced pieces that ended the reign of the high end receivers.

No doubt about the power output on the spec but the sound quality would be more in line with the 80s which probably is not bad even in today's standards. lol

The price is more for the nostalgia and rarity than the sound quality, no doubt. But then, these old receivers can sound quite good if working properly.

No, I am not buying one for 4K. Sadly, I don't have one for sale either.

I understand the market for the biggest and the best of a certain period, but what I don't understand in the vintage Mopar car market pricing. They were poorly built pieces when they were new and resale value plummeted straight off the showroom floor. We used to by them as starter cars when I was a kid because the Chevy and Ford models were too high on the used market.

The rarity of these poorly optioned, poorly constructed cars is the only thing that is driving the market and it just baffles me, and I am a happy owner of a more recent Dodge Ram Hemi truck.

Dog dish caps, no power or A/C for > $200K doesn't make for a nice ride, even if it is 1 of only 4 made!!

I didn't even know those existed back when they were new.
Still not sure how I missed that!

Maybe it's me, but $4k for a vintage receiver is just crazy. Says professionally serviced, yet the phono section still needs work. Seriously, for that coin it better look and play flawlessly.

I have a MINT Pioneer qx949 in storage. I decided that it should remain 100% original. I didn't even know its value until I was offered a used 4-wheeler for it. Ill hold onto it for a few more years until I can barter a truck lol.

I posted a public question on his ad calling him a fraud and a scammer for quoting the original price as $5199. His response was he had the receipt from purchasing it somewhere for that price (yeah, ok) and that I could just deal with it. I posted again that he wasn't a fraud but an idiot for purchasing a unit for $5199 with a non working phono section and then turning around and selling it for $4000. DEALT WITH IT.

Maybe he has a time machine... or maybe he's just an a$$ hole...
