@AsSiMiLaTeD did you get a chance to listen to them against the R300 when you purchased them?

I did, for near field the LS50 was the clear winner, and since that’s how I use mine most of the time that made the choice for me obvious.

Wow, incredible! To date the R300 is the best speaker I've ever heard.

For clarification, was it the regular LS50s or the wireless version that you directly compared them to?

Wireless, and keep in mind the design of the LS50 is much more tailored to producing good near field sound...as soon as you introduce multiple drivers like in the R300 that becomes more difficult.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll keep my eyes open for a used pair. I love the various colors they come in:

The KEF thread has been surprisingly good reading. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I think it gets to the heart if why Goldmund also does powered speakers.

On the KEF I’m assuming they’re bi-amped, active crossover, DSP room correction, wireless streaming and preamp all in one space saving design with very good acoustic performance.

The kef are biamp AND. Class ab for the highs, class d for the bottom. I am normally not a class d amp person but with the ab in front, they do not sound analytic.

I had both. Ls50 and the wireless. Even though the driver is the same, i foubd the wireless better sounding. I had some very good gear diving the 50's but the wireless just sounded better. Again, over a year and i still have no desire to change.

Btw, they can do a smaller to meduim room nicely as well. They are not limited to nearfield but in a nearfield situation they do very nice.

I had a couple of threads on speaker manufactures going the powered route. I know it takes the fun out of matching components and definitely does not look as nice as the Mcintosh mc402 and Joule electra lap150a the kef replaced but, they sound darn good.

Do the LS50s go deep enough for drum n bass and other electronic music?

Going by specs it doesn't appear so:

    LS 50: Frequency response (±3dB) 79Hz - 28kHz

The R300s dig a little deeper:

    Frequency response (±3dB) 50Hz - 28kHz

Looks like you were looking at cruthfield badly printed specs. Go here instrad
    http://us.kef.com/ls50-wireless
    They go down to 40hz
Still for drum and bass i would recommend a sub.

Ah, sorry for the confusion, I was looking at the specs for just the standard LS50 (non wireless) on accessories4less.com

Thanks though for the info. Been eyeing those Rythmik subs.
