Yes, they disappeared from Oppo direct around the same time the 203 became available. There were a handful available from places like Music Direct and Audio Advisor for a while.

I kind of feel the same way...wish I would have grabbed one before they were gone. I've noticed the used market values increasing slightly over the past month or so.

The only "blow out" Oppo had on them was dumping the refurb units.

They lasted a few hours when they showed up...

    Goodbye HDCD

    What'd you grab brother?

Nothing Skip but I did want another Oppo for the bedroom 5.1. I will miss my HDCD collection when the just play as regular cd's when the Oppo dies.

The Rotel RCD-1072 will play HDCD. I'm impressed that you have a collection of them. I only have one which is Charo's Charo And Guitar.

There is only one version encoded on an HDCD encoded CD. The lossless files from an HDCD encoded CD will decode through an HDCD capable DAC as an HDCD and as a regular CD through a DAC that does not support HDCD decoding.

I have a few as well but I didn't focus on it as it is a dead format. With the transition away from physical media for digital playback, I didn't see the point.

As an aside, does anyone know if you can rip the HDCD version from a CD, or does it naturally select the redbook version? If you can, that might eliminate your need for the playback from the optical drive Bruce.

I didn't really focus on them I just noticed it on a cd one day so I asked about it here. I then went through all of th cd's that I had that were listed on the net as HDCD recordings. It turns out that I had a bunch of them so I took them out of storage and put them with my SACD's. I think it was Emlyn that explained to me that a "bit perfect" rip would preserve the encoding. My rips didn't turn on the HDCD light so I play the disc on the Oppo.

I'm switching gears and going to focus on the 95. did you buy the 93 off eBay you and I may of been bidding against one another. I figure that when the 205/203 get going good there will be many to choose from. Heck I just got my first BR machine about 18-20 months back so I'm not going to jump on any 4K stuff that will mean I need to ditch the Panny Plasma ..... nope not until it dies.

I have a Samsung 7000 series that has a beautiful Picture that won't be going anywhere soon. The price was buy it now on eBay, it came up last night so I snagged it, the thing looks new in the pictures. I never should have sold my 93, performed without one glitch in the 3 years I had it. Was built like a tank. Nbrowser has it now, he says it's a solid machine.

Is OPPO delivering the 203 yet? I would think there would be quite a few non 4k players hit the market once the new ones start flowing.

The non 4k models that are hitting the market now seem to be selling quickly at good prices. Does OPPO offer any customer loyalty discounts?

Yes, the 203s are being delivered now. I just received mine yesterday and hooked it up this evening. I've only had a chance to play one SACD on it so far. Very nice! This weekend I'll give it a try out with some blu-ray movies.
