    1. Roon + Tidal Hifi- music player
Hands down the winner in Enjoyment of Music and EoM/$ categories even though it's not hardware. I have saved more than the $30 monthly cost in foregone music purchases.
    $119/yr or $499 lifetime, Tidal Hifi $19.99/mo

    2. Sonore microRendu + Uptone LPS-1 power supply - streamer device
Simple, small footprint, several streaming protocol options. Bests the Bryston BDP-1, especially when paired with Uptone LPS-1 power supply.
$690 with iFi power supply + $395 LPS-1 power supply upgrade

    3. Joule-Electra LA-100 iii - tube preamp
Star of the system in more conventional sense imo. Easy and inexpensive to roll tubes. I'm happily married to this pre.
$4,750 w/ Purist wiring & High Gain, paid $1,450 used + cost of NOS tubes

    4. Polk SRS 1.2 - speakers
    $3,000(?), paid $1,700 including RDO's + $630 mods

    5. Sunfire Signature II - solid state amplifier
    $3,495, paid $1,050 here

    6. MIT Shotgun S3 - bi-wire speakers, RCA & XLR interconnects
$200-$600 bought NOS from MIT and used

    7. Chord QuteEX + Teddy Pardo power supply - DAC
$1,795, paid $650 (+$220 for Teddy Pardo power supply)

Darqueknight; WOW! Now that is one very impressive list of electronics and cabling! Also very impressive is for your 1.2tl's to be your MVP. Now that is saying a lot for them.

Oops, I forgot to include power. I'd rank these at #6 or #7.

    PS Audio Dectet
Tremendous benefit. I was extremely pleased and surprised with the impact when I swapped this in for an APC.
    $500, paid $250

    Richard Gray 400S
Big benefit but, unlike the Dectet, req'd much trial and error with combinations of components and power cables.
    $700, paid $250

Reading through this thread it appears that very few people on here even have Polk speakers?

We all had to start somewhere. Polk RT20p introduced me to hi-fi audio.

Nice loudspeakers and amplifier; well chosen philosophies, from my perspective.
Way different than the "look how much money I paid" approach to hifi.

No comment on the CDP ;)

Do you not think a Feastrex D9e would be better than a Fostex?

What, by looking at them? They look -- well -- gold plated.
In terms of my perception of their sound? I'd have to hear them (which, to the best of my knowledge, I haven't).
They look like uber-Lowthers. I am generally not a huge fan of the Lowther sound -- they're phenomenal with some recordings, unlistenable with others. I liked the drivers Dave Slagle had in LeCleac'h horns -- which I think were electrodynamic Lowther variants.

That said, I really, really don't know if that pickiness is the case with the Feastrex twincones.
I might like 'em; I might not. I wouldn't condemn them a priori.
What do you think of them?

Folks may certainly spend as much as they wish on hifi (I know that I do, balanced by my very deliberate decision to retire at age 56) -- but I don't need to have my nose rubbed in how much they choose to spend.

  • Marantz CD player $400.

  • The Yamaha is an RS7000 and the Marantz player a CD6004

the GOAL is what sounds BEST to you for your $$$$ !

    Sacrifices will be made !!!!

    My thoughts :

    - Garbage in - Garbage OUT !! - 15% - source in and wire.

    - Preamp - 20%

    - Amplifier - 20%

    - Speakers all the rest and more if matched.
