Earthquake!

I was listening to Van Morrisons * MoonDance * and my lazy-boy recliner started shaking...thought surely there isn't enough bass in the song "Stoned Me" to wiggle my chair...

So I look up and my TT lid is shaking and get up and walk over there and it shook for a 20+ seconds then stopped.. Earthquakes in Kansas are something new but this had to have lasted for awhile..

p.s. my TT is up on isolating blocks and never skip a beat!

As a kid I remember the small earthquakes in Denver during the late 60's. All caused by the pumping of crap into wells on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal near what is now DIA. The downside of fracking!

Funny. This has absolutely nothing to do with fracking.

  • This is the first I heard anything about it...kind of interesting, although I hope no one was hurt.

Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. I've still never experienced an earthquake. I wouldn't mind a small one just for the experience. Small as in nobody gets hurt nothing destroyed. Just imagining the entire ground shaking... Wow. Mother Earth is very powerful.

  • Most of the increase around us is trying to be linked to waste water disposal. Whether or not there is a direct correlation is still to be decided, but when counties that had many quakes a couple years ago closed their sites, the neighboring counties that took the waste water started having the increase in tremors. It has simply moved across the landscape.....central OK. quakes are now decreasing and western counties are increasing.

Yeah, MrB - I think we felt that one down here in Virginia Beach as well!
I remember being out at lunch, casual conversation toward the end, and then this odd rocking/shifting, forcing pause in conversation, and we all realized it wasn't just in our heads and... did we just have an earthquake? We don't have earthquakes!

It's a neat experience as long as there's no damage and no one gets hurt. Kinda feel the same way about weather phenomena as well.

D - great way to test your tt setup! Good job!

I remember one here in CA, it looked like a scene out of the Exorcist, the walls were breathing and individual books were shooting out of the bookcase and pictures flew off of the walls. I stood in an open doorway and damn near got smashed by the door.

Thanks to the Isolating blocks I got from Bruce my TT held up just fine!

if it shook my house I could only image what Dennis felt.

Hey Ron, I going to put in for vacation to make sure I can make it to LSAF this year and I'll bring the Omega's and be fun to see both Russ's :)

Dave, with all the snow you got last year a earthquake there would start a avalanche!

I like my Martini's shaken not stirred so everything worked out okay!

Yea - I was in my subterranean office thinking the hotel was going to come down around me - in the end no damage but I'll never forget a co-workers words as I tried to figure out what was going on (as you said, you just really can't believe it's an earthquake here on the east coast) I was like, did something hit the building? He looks at me dead-pan and says "Mr Ed, you see that wall? (shaking brick and mortor wall over 3 feet thick) only God can move this wall".

    Amen brother, amen!

We felt that Virginia/DC quake up here in central PA a few years ago. I'll never forget the feeling. It was like nothing I've ever felt before. It started with cubicle walls in the office creaking and swaying. Everyone stood up like prairie dogs. Then the whole building and everything around started moving slightly. Kind of like everything was on a creeper dolly being moved slightly side to side. I remember feeling the office chair rolling a fraction of an inch back and forth. Even though we had never experienced an earthquake before, we all knew instantly what it was. Never take Mother Earth for granted!
