  • What's the best avr out of these three Denon, Onyko, or Yamaha?
  • Depends who you ask...my vote is for Yamaha Aventage then Marantz.

    It's a me, Mario!

Every brand has its supporters. Which is better Ford or Chevy? You're not likely to get very useful information.

I like Yamaha Aventage RX-A10xx and higher models.

You have to figure out what you want. 7.1, 7.2, 9.1, 11.2, etc. What type of room correction? I don't believe all will eq subwoofer frequency levels. At least all of them didn't in the past. Do you want Dolby Atmos or not...you could pick up last year's models. Accessories For Less is good for refurb. models at lower cost. People on this forum have had good results with them. You can also find dealers who will give significant discounts on AVR's way below the cost found online. Or you could find a nice used one at lower cost. I have owned a few brands and played around with other manufacturers at friends and brick and mortar stores. I prefer Marantz for sound, eq., features and convenience. And like others have stated everyone has their preference.

Everyone has their ceiling on what they can afford. If music is a high priority, I would get a decent AVR or prepro and definitely by an amp to go with those A9's. Adding an good amplifier to your system (with the A9's) will be one of the biggest improvements you can make especially for music.

    Van,
There is no work around for what your trying to do. The guys are giving you good advice.

When looking for an AVR, pick one with the bells and whistles that suit your needs and make sure it has at least 5.1 pre outs, that's the most important thing. Don't pay too much attention to the power rating of the receiver because you'll be using an amp which negates the built in amp in the receiver for your front A9's. The receivers amp is then only used to power the center and surrounds, a much easier load.

No sense chasing your tail trying to reinvent the wheel with your current AVR; use that Pio you have as it sits for the time being, it may not be the best thing out there but it will certainly suit your needs for now while you audition other gear.

If you have a BestBuy/Magnolia near you, that's a fine place to check out different pieces without a $$ commitment. If your timing is right you may even grab an open box Denon like I did for a fraction of the list price (3312ci new $1099, got it for $439 out the door).

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Speaker to preamp level is easily done with a simple voltage divider made up of 4 resistors.20db + of attenuation will likely be needed to bring the signal down to a usable level,(to prevent overloading the amp inpu)t.It is the same type of circuit used for attenuating the speaker level input on subwoofer plate amps. Its easily DIY'ed but Parts express or MCM etc. likely have something suitable for the purpose.

WHAT do you want to do? OTOH Tonyb & Norton hit it (hard) for me. But... ...if you "got amps," & don't need DAtmos, Outlaw 975...

To emphasize, regardless of the AVR brand's features, new, used, look for pre-outputs. Don't settle for less than LCR here.

Chances are LCR & surrounds, (i.e. 5 most common channels) easily had. Though more to the tune of 7.1, 9*.1, even 11* plus 2 subs are possible - can't help you w/make & model on these*.
