HT. Heard it at AL Ballards place at one of the Polkfests. Impressive even by today's standards. Wouldn't be the ultimate for purely music, but for HT it's right up there.

That is the impression I got from people commenting on it.

I would still imagine it would be impressive for music also, but maybe not the ultimate really.

What kinda sound levels did you listen at? Purely loud or more moderate also?

Loud and moderate, music and movies. He had them in an upstairs room, smallish and I remember the windows rattling almost out of their frames on certain passages during the Transformers movie. Made one feel they were right inside the action with the actors.

SRT stands for Signature Reference Theater........they do music, but they were designed for HT and that's where they ultimately excel. Could someone use as a dual purpose rig? Sure, but they aren't the ultimate for 2 channel reproduction. One could certainly live with the compromise however.

Parts are hard to find, if not impossible. Polk won't work on the controllers anymore nor do they make parts anymore. So finding an intact pair that's minty is very hard to do these days.

These certainly deserve a place on the top of the list for Polk achievements. There was nothing like them when they were introduced. Original MSRP was $10K for the entire system.

Mostly moderate, from what I recall, but there was this one part during a Talking Heads concert DVD that I believe 120db was attained... all I could think about was that Memorex poster.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Just curious, as I tend to listen usually at very moderate levels.
Once in a while I will let something "Rip", but very rarely.

Was over at a friends house, not long ago, and their idea of "Normal loudness" was very annoying, even after telling them it was too loud.

There is a point, in a normal sized room where no matter how good it sounds, it can simply be too loud for the situation!

Ditto, these days I am all about quality/quantity. There is also something to be said for cranking up some Metallica or Van Halen now and then, but only for one or two tracks.
Maybe your friends' setup is too bright? Or perhaps they've lost some of their hearing sensitivity. Or both. :o
