the new bond candidates

Tom Hardy recently of gandolfinis last flick, "The Drop", an excellent actor in an excellent movie IMO.

And Idris Elba, also a very good actor, who would represent a big change in the bond series, Idris is black.

Don't think they could go wrong with either, after the roger moore movies there will never be a new low.

Have to agree, Daniel Craig was a great Bond. Got me interested in the Series again.
Idris Elba would be an excellent choice, very underrated actor.

Agreed.....must have too much money now to be bothered with the filming schedule required for another Bond flick. I don't get these actors sometimes, they weren't exactly setting the world on fire before playing Bond, and probably won't after he stops either.

I think there are two reasons why Daniel Craig wants to retire from Bond. 1. is he doesn't want to be known only as Bond. And number 2 is he is closing in on 50, and I don't think he will be able to maintain the level of physicality that he has been doing since he started doing them.

Out of all of the actors portraying Bond, he has been the most physically active in them. But he is also the youngest Bond ever cast.

I think Daniel Craig is getting out because he doesn't want to be labeled for the rest of his career. Although I think Daniel Craig was the best Bond next to Sean Connery .

I think the Bourne franchise has put A LOT of pressure on the Bond franchise... This is seen in the somewhat more realistic action sequences, and the grittier, less happy-go-lucky attitude of the more recent (Craig) Bond films. Overall a good shift, IMHO.

I don't know about this. Wasn't Connery still doing action films well beyond that age? And look at Harrison Ford. I, myself, did not feel any slow down till quite recently, and I'm no longer in my 50s? Just over the line. Frankly, Craig still looks to be in "fantastic" shape for his age, although his face is not aging as well as "mine", lol Wrinkles do not run in the family, thanks to greasy skin and minimal sun exposure! Too much time under the desk lamp than UV rays!

But yeah, Connery was the classic Bond and somewhat "ageless" as well! Can't believe I used to argue about this years ago with an old roommate who preferred Roger Moore, who is actually two years older? And began his career as Bond at 46 and ran till almost 58?

Since Idris Elba is in his mid 40s he's probably slightly too old to take over the franchise in the next few years if the producers are looking for an actor to take on 4 to 5 movies. Tom Hardy may have too many other movies going on, plus he seems to be a bit crazy and his movies are very wide ranging in subject. I suspect Daniel Craig has another Bond movie in him after Spectre since the producers have a track record of sticking with an actor as long as the box office draw is big. Skyfall drew in more than $1 billion worldwide, and Spectre will probably do just as well. Hard to believe he's already been doing the Bond movies for ten years. The producers may not need to find a replacement until 2017 and then they would probably look for someone in his mid to late 30s to hold the gig for another ten years.

As far as Roger Moore goes, he was a pretty good fit for the times he was working in, but he stuck around too long and the last two Bond movies he did were slightly embarassing.

Top two Bond movies for me were Goldeneye and From Russia With Love.

I don't mean to say that he can't still do action films, but what you will see will be more distance shots which you know are stunt doubles, or close ups with limited movement and certainly not seeing him sprinting all over the place as he has been doing. The body as it gets older can only take so much abuse, and they can't risk him having a heart attack.

Craig is still in fantastic shape, but you are right about the ageing, he looks far older than his 47 years.

I think that this is one of the reasons the later movies with Roger Moore and others got so ridiculous, none of the actors were in the kind of shape that Craig is in and so they had to rely on special effects to carry the load.

Craig brought the franchise back into the realm of believability. He is my second favorite Bond right after Roger Moore.

Jason Statham is too gritty and not suave enough for the role. Gerard Butler isn't as good looking to be a Bond, and also doesn't have the finesse.

Not sure who would make a great Bond out of the cast of characters mentioned, don't think I'd take any of them though. Maybe an unknown ?

I always wondered why Jason Statham couldn't have been considered before, I think the women would have liked him. I also thought roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan did fine as James Bond. Another thing to consider, seems like the studio used to put out James Bond movies much faster instead of having so many years between JB releases.

I think the next ( and every new bond) needs to be a relatively unknown actor.

That way you don't have other characters in your mind when you see him.

I'm a huge bond fan, and enjoy the vintage ones a lot.

Craig, however, has been great IMO. Casino Royale is possibly my favorite.

George Lazenby didn't want to do Bond anymore after Her Majesty's Secret Service, as far as I remember reading. Don't think the franchise pulled him off.

Oh ya, I just had to see that movie, listening to ABBA growing up and all. My jaw literally hit the floor when he started to sing, and not in a good way...

That's just it, he was the truest form based off of the original character. Craig's movies are far more entertaining to watch than the rest and I owe every one in multiple medias. I'd like to see a few more out of him.

As for him leaving, I heard he hates piles of money and wiping his balloon knot with hundos...
