Source doesn't matter, i.e. Vinyl, Tape, CD, SACD or Digital download.
With that said I know there are exceptions, But in general I prefer the original studio recordings.

Note - There is no wrong answer and it's anonymous unless you post your choice.

I've never been much of a fan of live recordings... except of course for Frank Zappa's who were almost always recorded live.

Since I listen to more old classics that were more than likely done on tube and /or RTR master tapes I voted original.

Now I do come across classics that have been improved by remastering, which depends on the remastering artist

    In general.....originals.

    Occasionally, remasters may help.

Original mostly, but some Live LP's are fantastic -like Foghat live was some much better then studio versions, as was BOC "Some Enchanted Evening" they sound better live, Billy Idol's storyteller is the best of the best B)
and all those unplugged LP's out there...LIVE is pretty cool!

Hard question to answer since most records are not available in all three forms in order to compare. However, I can say that live recordings where the band gets the audience to sing along are ones I cannot tolerate. For live versions I want to hear the original song, but with additional playing time, or slightly different music.
