Official SVS owners thread!

Thought I would start a thread on SVS subs. There is enough talk around here about them. Heck this forum is why I bought mine. Could be fun! What do you have? Size of room? What do you run your gain at? Eq maybe? Anything goes... These are examples of course. Let's talk some serious subs!

    Thinking about trying the PC2000

I'm running a SVS PB12-NSD sub with a Audioquest Sub-3 cable. Gain is set at 6 out of 9 and phase is at the 90 degree mark or just before half way. Receiver setting is 0 gain and my fronts are crossed over at 60hz and the center and rears are crossed over at 80hz and the SVS crossover setting all the way to the right.

Really enjoyed the upgrade from previous subs, I bought it without hearing it and the Canadian dealer said that once hooked up I would not be back to return it. He was so correct. Ha Ha.

It takes anything you throw at it, just watched the movie Super 8 and the train scene along with the rest of the sub moments in the movie are and were incredible. It goes so low. In the future if I do upgrade it will be SVS all the way and probably to the ported Ultra but there is no need to yet with my 24 x 18 room.

I only use my SVS for Home Theater or the occasional BluRay music disc or multi-channel SACD through my Sony Blu-Ray player.

I have a dedicated 2 channel system that I use for 2 channel SACD's and records.

Would love to hear the pb-12nsd. Almost bought one. But went with 2 ultras instead (purchased from sonic boom in Canada). Both ultras in a 14x20 foot room. With ten foot ceilings. There is a large opening to the rest of the house. Lfe trim set at 0. Sub volume set at -6, and gain on each ultra at -12. All speakers crossed over at 80hz. I also use an antimode 8033S-II for sub eq. Mostly used for theater use, some music in there once in a while like multi channel sacds or blue ray concerts. I also have a dedicated 2 channel system in the living room. No SVS subs in that mix as of yet. Loving the bass out of my lsi15's  the bass seems just right.

PC-Ultra in the HT with LSi setup (9's, LSiC & FX's). Might pick up a used PB13-Ultra this weekend for living room set.

I'm running dual PB13 Ultras in a 23x30 room. They sure pack a punch.

I'd like to try out a dual SVS SB-2000 setup in my 2 channel rig with my LSi9s. That's a long distant upgrade at this point though. With the way these 9s keep surprising me with their bass output though, I may change my mind.

I'm running a 25-31PC+. Upgraded the driver to the 12.3, running at 20hz tune, 1 port plugged. Rocks the room...

Have you tried 15hz tune? How do you like it? I've tried 15hz and always liked the factory tune better. Can't put my finger on it. Seems to have cleaner bass.

Running a PB12-NSD with a set of Harbeth 7ES-3's in a 2 channel setup. XO is set at 3 clicks from minimum (37.5 Hz), phase at 0, and about 11 clicks of gain. The Harbeths are down 3db at 46Hz.

What kind of connectivity are you using? AVR, balanced, using the built in P-EQ? I am deciding between two Rythmik E15HP or two SB13 Ultras for my two channel system. (40' x 15', expanding in width to 18', 14' high ceilings. Like 10,000 cubic feet).

Your PB's use the same STA-1000D amp as the SB's, IIRC. I'll be running balanced. Currently my two 12" subs are too small for the area and SE only. (My two channel pre amp is 12dB gain via balanced and only 6dB SE out).

I can get the Rythmik's (which are great subs) for less money, but would be looking at a mini DSP like the balanced OpenDRC-AN ($325, $400 with mic). That puts me around the same price as a pair of SVS with the two sub deal. The SVS STA-1000D amp has two PEQ filters built in (31Hz to 125Hz) so less components to deal with.

I guess I am officially an owner since mine is paid for and in route to me... Question for you guys. Is anyone running a balanced cable from the Pre/Pro or setup to the Sub?

My PC12-Ultra circa 2007 is still going full blast with no signs of letting up. Never had a single bit of trouble with it. I'm using a single port plug on it that gets it down to, I believe, 20hz. It's a beast!

How could I forget my old PB12-Plus in the family room surround system. I recall swapping the woofer out with an SVS upgraded woofer shortly after I got it. I ran coax in wall to an F connector wall plate.

I love those older models! What was the older model running dual down firing 12's? I thought that was the older plus? Good to know these guys last the test of time.

PB12+2. I believe there was also a dual driver Ultra as well.

Still running my Dual PB12/Plus2's tuned to 15Hz., wouldn't trade them for the world.

I've had a PB12-NSD/2 since May 07, LFE only, fed by a 10m Better Cables sub cable, tuned to 25hz (no ports blocked) with the onboard x-over disabled. Set to 0/180 on the phase, with the gain set to about 9 -10 o'clock, plenty for my living room at 15x 25'.
I bought it directly from SVS B-stock, the $$ off basically gave free shipping. I did have an issue with one woofer about a year after buying it, but SVS replaced it for no cost (except return shipping of the defective one), I was totally OK with that.

I still like that some people remark about what I could've had for my $899...

Ken pegged that model with the +2. This one just has the single 12" still going strong.

PB2-Plus here, spiked. Shakes the house. Two plugs in.

I have the PB-12 NSD thanks to Rick88 B) my house almost didn't survive the "Darla Scene Test"

Came home today and had a brand spankin new PB13- Ultra waiting for me in the garage. After carefully unpacking, I carefully loaded it onto a dolly and wheeled it in to the house. I placed it and after reading the QRG I fired that bad boy up.

    and WOW... Holy **** ;;;;

    Here are my initial impressions.

    1. This is a big MFER. I know they said it was big but wow this is big.
    2. Some SERIOUS BASS... I have only been sampling some movie stuff from Directv.. But it is some seriously deep well balanced BASS.
    3. Don't know why i bothered with my other subs.878o9e8j99hd.jpg

I swear that as it broke in, it sounds louder, cleaner, and tighter. It only gets better from here!
  • Mikey081057Mikey081057 Posts: 4,595
If it gets better I will be even more ecstatic. This thing is an absolute beast.

My other subs were like toys compared to the PB2 Plus. Mine is a bit older, and doesn't have the parametric EQ or any Digital Equalization, but once dialed in, and calibrated, forget about it.

It's nice to have those extra features. But honestly I don't use them. I just let the antimode do its work and sit back and enjoy.

I think the only thing I would like to see is for the higher end versions would be to have a network interfaced setup mode b/c once this big mother is in place it is difficult to see the display to make adj's.
  • mikeyb128mikeyb128 Posts: 2,194
I totally agree. The display is a pita to get at once in place. A remote would be nice too. Or a front mounted display like velodyne.
