Starting a new phonostage build.

Having completed my line stage, I need a phono stage for my vinyl. Here is the chassis I got off Ebay. There will be three tubes across the front.

Here is what I have so far for a layout. I was going to use a three socket turret board (seen at the top) but the one I got from AES is too big. I called them about the size not being what their website shows and they found out that all their inventory for the size I want is wrong. They need to return it to the manufacturer. I decided to go with a couple single row boards, rather than wait for them to get new stock.

Man, your work makes me quite jealous. Gorgeous and its only going to look better.

@DSkip you best get this guy your amps to look at lol, its QUITE obvious he's been around the block a few times (he might have even built it  )

Have you considered an external power supply?

Have you considered an external power supply?

I did with the power supply taking up 3/4 of the chassis, but if I remove it, the chassis would seem a waste with only the phono section in it. This way it is simple clean and compact.

Are you using a passive or active RIAA EQ?

Three gain stages with one partial-equalization network in between each gain stage. Here is a great article on passive phono preamps and the many ways to build them.

Yes, that site has been very helpful in learning about circuitry for me. I'm sure your project will as good looking as it is good sounding. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks, I will add to this thread, as the build progresses. My projects typically take some time, as I want things to be just so. Perfection takes time.

Still in progress. It gets uglier before it gets pretty. At the moment, there are lots of extra wires going to resistors in the power supply. This is so I can swap resistors easier while working to get the voltages I want in the power supply. Once the determination is done, I then solder the value I need in place on the turret board.

I'm still waiting on the verdict for those 845 amps.

The 845's are keepers. They are here to stay. Still it would be nice to compare them to yours.
