Getting ready for summer here even though the highs are still in the 40's.

I've never used a subwoofer and never set u an outdoor system, but I bought the Atriums at the friends and family sale and now I need to power them.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for an inexpensive amp and guidance on the set up.

Thanks very much.

With the subwoofer and 2 speakers can it be a 2 channel receiver, or do I need a HT receiver, ie. 3.1, 5.1, whatever.1?

    Thanks very much.

Depends upon how the subwoofer hooks up. I would assume you could use speaker level connection and use either a 2-channel or HT AVR.

OK, cool. I'll break out the sub and... gulp... read the instructions!... this weekend.

Any advice on speaker wire for outdoors?

    Thanks!

I believe with that sub, you'd need a subwoofer output. Some 2 channel receivers have them, some don't. In any event, a 5.1 receiver will and any of the older robust models can still be had on the cheap.

What sub did you buy? Some you can connect the RCA's straight to it for Left/Right and then use the crossover in the sub to send the some to the sub some to the speakers. Some you cant and then you would need to use a HT AVR w/ sub out.

Speaker wire for outdoor I would probably use some in-wall rated cable so anything CL rated. You might even be able to use cable normally used to power exterior lights for your use, but it may be hard to tell the polarity at each end if you dont mark it.

Ok so just read the info on the Atrium sub10 and it looks like it is unpowered built has a built in 150 hz low pass filter (i.e. crossover). So that may make it a bit more complicated...

Looks like I need to get my read on before summer comes. Of course, since I live in central Illinois, that gives me about four months or so. :(
