JL or JBL subwoofer choice

I have a sealed subwoofer enclosure custom built for my 2007 porsche 911. Right now I am in possession of my pair of jbl gto-804
and my wife's old jl 8w1-8

the jbl's seem much heftier than the jl, but on average I think the jl's have a better reputation.

I have not heard my wife's jl subs.

I have the dilemma of choosing one over the other. What are your opinions on these subs?

here's a couple of links to specs:

JBL GTO804 (GTO-804) 8" Grand Touring Single 4 ohm Car Subwoofer

I will be running either pair with a solid rockford fosgate amp. It hit nice and hard on the jbl's which are 4 ohm. It looks like the jl's are 8 ohm but I'm not sure.

did they make 8inch subs in that series? If they are better than the subs I have now I would love to find them.

Both are great. JBL and JL make great subs. If the JBL seems beefier, go with it since it'll probably take more abuse.

At this price point, all the major brands are really going to be about the same. Its not til you get into the higher end models that their differences start showing and the better ones start pulling away.
