I'm going to need a new battery soon for my Dell Studio 1749. I don't frequently use my laptop without it being plugged in but I do need that ability occasionally. I'm wondering if the batteries available directly from Dell are worth the price or are aftermarket brands just as good? Also, if aftermarket batteries are a good option, can anybody recommend an online site that I should check out? Thanks

Amazon had a better price on a genuine Dell battery when I needed one recently. Might price shop them while you're at it.

That's where I picked up a replacement for my wife's laptop. Another tip is to charge the battery once a month and when you use the laptop plugged in remove the battery. I've done this with my Sony for 5 years and it works perfectly to this day.

Some cheap batts. are reportedly responsible for causing fires, for that reason, I'd suggest getting OE batteries at the lowest price you can find. Safe is better'n cheap in my book, any day.

I would stick with genuine Dell batteries as well. As another poster mentioned, check Amazon and other reputable dealers as they may be better priced than direct from Dell. However, stay away from eBay or other unknown dealers as they may claim to be genuine Dell batteries, but are actually fakes.

Thanks for the info, everybody. I will definitely stay with a Dell battery.
